My older brother Pete was my hero, protector, and my first friend and confidant. Being the youngest of four kids in our family, I relied on him from my earliest memories to guide me through the minefield of things to avoid that irritated our parents and our two older sisters. Growing up in a neighborhood of mostly retired senior couples and widows presented its own set of rules and problems that he defended me from. Who's lawn you couldn't cross. Which old lady would call our mom if we made too much noise. I remember when we were about 4 and 6 running down the length of our side yard faster than the old ladies could drive their cars. The two of us laughing as they went slowly along in two-tone pastel cars, bent over looking through their steering wheels. From explaining the terrifying live mermaid show at Webb's City to a 5-year-old to real-life events like President Kennedy in Dallas that day, and why the jets kept flying over our house, breaking the sound barrier in 1962, he was my champion.
Over the years we would talk on the phone fairly regularly, politics, movies, work, and whatever DIY we were each working on. He was always positive and offered sound honest advice whatever the issue.
I still cannot believe he is gone.

I went to high school with Pete. In later years I saw his parents more often than he due to a mutual friend.
Last year I saw Pete and his dad at the funeral of that same friend. I am so glad we had lunch together and caught up on each other's lives.
Pete was such a kind person. Everyone that knew him always had pleasant things to say about him. His passing is a great loss for our community.
Sending my deepest condolences to Mr. Farris and his family.

It was a pleasant surprise to run into Peter when playing golf a couple of years ago. As a close childhood friend to Pete's sister Christine, I knew him mainly as a kid, a little brother. To see the man he became was rewarding. David and I send our love and condolences to Dan, Chris, Amy and Andy. Teddy O'Connell Buell

Pete wasn't like family to us - Peter WAS our family and woven into the fabric of our everyday life. We were lucky to know Peter Farris and I am a better man because of his friendship over some 40 years.
Pete and Judy together with Pam, Drew and I shared hundreds of vacations together and countless good times. Pete was the sort of person that made you feel welcome - a person with whom you could be yourself and enjoy sharing a story with. We always looked forward to another chance to be together whether it was a week at a theme park or just a Saturday, it was always great just to be with each other as a family.
Pete was a man of honor and principle. Every day without fail he was the sort of person we all strive to be.
To know Pete was to love Pete and there will not be a day that we don't think about our brother and best friend.
We will dearly miss him forever.
There are no words to describe just how special you were to us Peter.
