I never met Ron but dealt with him when he called in orders for the many florists in Florida. He never ceased to make me smile and helped me tremendously when i first started with Moore Paper Boxes. I regret that i never made the trip to Florida which i talked about with him to meet him and his bride. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and with him even though it is two years past.
First met Ron on the phone. I had just started with Florafax and was really green. He along with Fish and Lacey taught me many things, some not so good. After those days we always stayed in touch throughout the years. Later in the 80's he and fish persuaded me to join them for a week in Denver, turned into many years. I was proud they accepted me into "The Looney Tunes group" When he became "The Skipper" we remained close. I traveled Florida and was able to see him often and was fortunate to meet Bev "Puddin Pie" as I called her. He was one lucky man to find her. They were so devoted to each other and shared so much. Ron spent many nights with Linda and I in Georgia and he was able to meet our friends here. We haven't seen each other for a few years due to both of our health issues but spoke just about every week.
Ron cannot be replaced. He was one of a kind and we were both fortunate and proud to call He and Puddin Pie our friends.
My friend Ron was always fun to be with. I think we bonded more than some other friends because we were both Virginia Hillbillies. Lots of good memories: from trout and eggs at the Skyway Bridge Restaurant to a visit with “The Fish” in Porto Vallarta where someone rode a donkey into the bar.
A “Fast” ride on the Donzi, Florafax and Hilton Hotel insane fun, watching Ron dock a 57 foot yacht with only 12 inches clearance on each side ..like putting a baby to bed said the Skeeper. Driving Rhonda’s very expensive sports car.. couldn’t get him to go 200 but then had to call Ronda because two old guys couldn’t find the gas cap…great laughs. Re-reading his book is like being with him on an adventure.
So many good memories. He was so proud of his family and so blessed to have Bev by his side. We all will miss the “Skeeper” Ted & Len
I’m so very sorry for your loss. I have many fond memories of Ron and the Miss Cellaneous. He taught me a lot about boating and being a First Mate. Memories and stories I will always cherish. Rest In Peace Skeeper. I know you are at the helm again in your happy place.
