Obituary of Gary D. Goins

Gary Dewayne Goins, Age 79, 12/8/1942 - 9/9/2021

We mourn the loss of our beloved father. He is survived by daughters:: Kelly Bujalski & Natalie Goins, Son: Scott D.Goins and Daughter in Law: Karla Goins, brother, Jim Goins & sister in law Charlotte Goins & their children: Marsha Goins, Mara & Bob Pucinelli. He will be forever loved and missed as Papa by Grandchildren: Sam & Abby Bujalski.  Always remembered & loved as Grandpa by Grandchildren: Steve & Elizabeth Slasinski and Great-Grandchildren: Lakai Soupakhot & Assata Brown.  Originally from Monroe Michigan, he graduated from Monroe High School  & would go on to serve in the Navy until 1970.  During those years, he learned the fundamentals needed to become a highly skilled Tool & Die Machinist. Moving from Michigan to the state of Tennessee and then on to St.Petersburg, Florida where he would reside for the next 40 years. He would go on to specialize in the design of precision equipment that would manufacture a superior quality Intraocular Lens designed as an implant to restore lost vision. He established his business:  I.O.L International as a manufacturer of complete Turn- Key production processes & equipment needed to produce his unique, one of a kind, implant lens. His company & staff provided training for production & setup worldwide. There would be an independent facility completed in Russia, Taiwan, Spain,  Egypt, 2 in India and 2 in China. He always said "I feel that was a calling on my Life"  He was especially touched by his work with Dr. V (Dr.Govindappa Venkataswamy) in India. The facility placed there, known  as Aurolab, "would do more than manufacture lenses. It would produce a revolution that was rooted in and driven by compassion" as referenced in the book Infinite Vision (page 156). I.O.L International is also referenced on page 153. The book is an account of the vision of one Doctor with a dream to impact the vision of many in his home country.

Our father will be lovingly remembered by his family & friends. He enjoyed a great sense of humor & loved to travel. He lived life on his own terms and enjoyed the freedoms it provided. We miss you.

The care of Mr. Goins and his family has been entrusted to David C. Gross Funeral Home in St. Petersburg.
