Claire Millar

Obituary of Claire Marie Millar

Claire Millar was born Claire Marie Anderson at home in West New York, New Jersey on February 3, 1927 to Helen and Joseph Anderson. Claire enjoyed a life full of family, hard work, travel, friends, and simple pleasures. Claire herself was strong in personality, generous toward others, and resilient in the face of hardship. Her life’s treasures included her family, friends, many pets, and her small but comfortable home that welcomed children and grandchildren to sit together, relax, and watch thunderstorms. During her later working years she was employed by the State of Florida as a Grants Manager and then as a teacher’s assistant helping hearing impaired children. Claire loved the natural world: sunsets and clouds; owls, big cats, horses and cardinals; lilacs, gardenias, and surprise lilies; the Grand Teton Mountains and U.S. National Parks. She enjoyed the wonders of travel, including a trip with her synagogue family to the Holy Land. The pursuit of learning was a ceaseless feature of Claire’s life: she loved Ancient Egypt, Jewish history, and the Victorian era and the homes of that period. She loved submarine films and the movies Wuthering Heights, The Four Feathers, Gaslight, and The Picture of Dorian Gray. She could often be seen coloring, or with her nose in a book or a word puzzle. Her children, grandchildren, family, and friends will forever love and miss her: Claire, Mom, and Nana.
