Obituary of Robert Alan Dillmeier

Robert Alan Dillmeier of Clearwater, passed away in the early morning of April 13, 2023. Robert was born on July 21, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY. He was 92 years old. 

Robert is survived by his only daughter, Beth Ann Schneider, and grandchildren John Emery Schneider and Katelyn Marie Schneider. 

Robert graduated with a Bachelor of Science and Civil Engineering degree from Rutgers University in New Brunswick New Jersey in 1953. He was a member of the National Engineering Honorary Society as well. Robert worked as an Executive for the Exxon Mobil Corporation for 40 years in New York, New Jersey, and Houston, Texas and traveled widely internationally for business. 

Robert was also a retired Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves serving 30 years before retiring in 1983. He is a graduate of the U.S. Army Advanced Engineer Corp School, the U.S. Army Command and Tech General Staff College and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. He was also a lifetime member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Reserve Officers Association. All noted accolades are to be highly commended. 

In retirement Colonel Dillmeier enjoyed golf and coaching baseball and other sports for his grandchildren. He attended countless sporting events of his grandchildren especially baseball and softball and the pride was undeniable with noting the talent they had. Robert's grandson was drafted into the Cincinnati Reds Organization for 5 years as a professional baseball player acquiring his love of baseball from his grandfather.  

Robert himself was an accomplished athlete playing baseball and basketball in high school. He played scholarship basketball at Rutgers University and played actual games in the iconic Madison Square Garden. Robert played semi-pro baseball with and against many former professional players in the 1940s. (i.e. Frank Torre, Joe Torres brother, among others) At 16 years old, Robert tried out at a baseball showcase for the Brooklyn Dodgers Major League team at Ebbets Field. His athletic ability was evident. 

Robert was a solid devout Christian with integrity and character in all aspects of his long life. He will be greatly missed and will leave a legacy of greatness to his surviving daughter and grandchildren. 

Services will be held on Friday April 21st at Harborside Christian Church (off McMullen Booth Road) in the wedding chapel. Mingling and closed casket viewing will be from 9 -10 am. 10-11 am will be the Celebration of Life with Military Honors following at Bushnell National Cemetery at 1 pm. All are welcome to attend.
